This Shop Talk Contains the Criteria for the Following Conditions:

1 At Engine Startup

2 While Driving (1

3 While Driving (2)

At Engine Startup:

Technical Description:

1) The interco0ler outlet temperature sensor, which is installed downsteam of the boost pressure sensor constantly measures the intake temperature at the intercooler outlet

Description of Malfunction:

1 The intake temperature at the intercooler outlet cannot be correctly recognized.

DTC Set Condition:

1 DTC Detection Condition:

  1. a) Starter key”ON”.
  2. b) The engine speed is 1000 r/min or less.
  3. c) Engine coolant temperature is in the range of -30 to 55 °C (-22 to 131 °F).
  4. d) The battery voltage is in the range of 10 to 16 V.e) The engine is stopped, or the engine speed remains at 500 r/min or more for 5 seconds or more.

Judgement Criteria:

2 Judgement Criteria:

Judged when the average temperature of the air intake temperature sensor (built in the air flow meter) and the intercooler outlet temperature sensor is 30 °C (86 °F) or more or more while the average temperature of the intercooler outlet temperature sensor and the intake manifold temperature sensor is 30 °C (86 °F) or more.

Indication, Warning or System Control Regulation When The DTC Is Set:1)MIL:ON2) SVS light: OFF

Symptoms On The Vehicle The DTC Is Set:1) Symptoms On The Vehicle Due To Backup Control (Fail Safe Function):

  1. a) None

2) Symptoms On The Vehicle Due To Malfunction:a) None

Pre-Inspection Work:1) Check that the battery voltage is in the normal range.

After-Inspection Work:1) Clear all past DTCs.2) Check that no DTC is detected after test drive.

Possible Causes

1 Intercooler outlet temperature sensor malfunction

2 Failure of intake air temperature sensor (with built-in air flow meter)

3 Intake air temperature sensor malfunction

a Sensor is disconnected from measuring site or sensing unit is malfunctioning (due to dirt clogging. damage, etc.)

b Faulty resistance (due to sticking)

4 ECU sensor power supply failure

While Driving (1):

Technical Description:

1 The intercooler outlet temperature sensor which s installed downstream of the boost pressure sensor. constanty measures the intake temperature at the intercooler outlet

Description of Malfunction:

1) The intake temperature at the intercooler outlet cannot be correctly recognized.

DTC Set Condition:

1) DTC Detection Condition:

The conditions described below remain for 11 seconds or more:

  1. a) The battery voltage is in the range of 10 to 16 V.
  2. b) The engine speed remains at 500 r/min or more for 5 seconds or more.

The conditions described below remain for 40 seconds or more:

  1. a) The engine speed is 1500 r/min or more.
  2. b) Fuel injection quantity is 40 mm3/st.cyl or more.
  3. c) A change in the engine speed is 156 r/min/sec or less.
  4. d) A change in fuel injection quantity is 78 mm2/st.cyl. sec or less
  5. e) Atmospheric pressure is higher than 75 kPa.
  6. f) Vehicle speed is 13 mph or more.
  7. g) Intake air quantity is 45 g/sec or more.
  8. h) Intake air temperature sensor (built-in air flow meter) is -10 °C (14 °F) or more.
  9. i) Exhaust brake and DPR is not actuated.

2 Judgement Criteria:

  1. The calculated intercooler efficiency, which is derived from the intake temperature sensor, boost pressure sensor, intercooler outlet temperature sensor, and atmospheric pressure sensor, is greater than 140%.

Reset Condition:

1) After restoration to normal condition

Indication, Warning or System Control Regulation When The DTC Is Set:1) MIL:ON2) SVS light: OFF
