Kubota U48-4 Excavator Travel Motor Disassembly Guide

This instruction show you guide on how to disassembly travel motor for Kubota U48-4 excavator.

Disassembly Procedures
[A] Gear Case Disassembly

1.Attach the travel motor to the special disassembly platform.

2.Tap the spring pins in. (4 places)
• Tool to use: Hammer and pin punch (ϕ4)

3.Attach the cover-removal tool and knock it up to remove the cover (3).
IMPORTANT
• After removing the cover, remove the spring pin from the cover.

If a cover removal tool is not available
• Remove the 2 plugs and attach eye-bolts.
• Put the rod through the eyebolt holes.
• Knock upwards on both sides of the rod and remove the cover.
• Tool to use: Eyebolts & round rod

4.Remove the plate (thrust, C) (8).

5.Remove the holder and sub-assembly.

6.Remove the gear (drive) (9)

7.Remove the gear (sun) (15).

8.Drain off any gear oil.
If there is not any gear oil, skip this step.

9.Remove the 4 axle snap rings (17).
• Tool to use: Snap ring pliers

10.Remove the plate (thrust, B2) (18).

11.Remove the gear (planetary, B) (21)

12.Remove the needle bearing (20).

15.Remove the plate (thrust, D) (16).

16.Remove the 2 set screws (M8 Sealock)
• Tool to use: M4 hex socket

17.Remove the nut (ring).

18.Tap the gear case (6) alternately on its sides with a plastic hammer.
• Tool to use: Plastic hammer

19.Rmove the gear case (6) from its holder (flange) (28).

20emove the seal (24) from the gear case side.
• Tool to use: Slotted screwdriver

21emove the seal (24) from the flange holder side.
• Tool to use: Slotted screwdriver

2.Remove the plug (7).
• Tool to use: M5 hex socket

23.Remove the balls (25). (99 balls)
IMPORTANT
• Do not lose any of the balls.
• If you fail to remove even one of the balls, the bearing cannot be removed, so keep close track of the balls.

24.Remove the bearing (angular) with a press.

 

[B] Motor Disassembly

1.Remove the anti-cavitation parts.
Remove the plug (94), spring (anti-cavitation) (97), spool
(anti-cavitation) (98) in order.
• Tool to use: M8 hex socket

2.Remove the body (anti-cavitation) (99).
IMPORTANT
• Replace O-rings (92) (93) with new ones during reassembly.
• Tool to use: M6 hex socket

3.Remove the 2-speed switch.
Remove the plug (83), pipe connector (2-speed) (88), spool
(2-speed, S) (85), spring (2-speed, S) (86), spool (2-speed switch) (87) in order.
IMPORTANT
• Check to make sure there are not any scratches around the circumference of the spools.
• Tool to use: M8 hex socket, M22 socket wrench Components of the 2-speed Switch

4.Remove the high-pressure selector.
Remove the plug and spool (80) in order.
• Tool to use: M8 hex socket

5.Remove the plug.
CAUTION
• There is little room for the wrench (or socket), so be careful not to let it slip.
• Tool to use: M36 wrench (socket)

6.Remove the plug (68), compression spring (70), metal washer (spring) (71) and plunger (counterbalance) (76) in order.
IMPORTANT
• Check to make sure there are not any scratches around the circumference of the spools.

7.Remove the hex socket bolt (89).
• Tool to use: M8 hex socket

8.Tap the body (counterbalance) with a plastic hammer to raise it.
Insert a slotted screwdriver into the gap and tap the body (counterbalance) from the opposite side with the hammer to remove it.
IMPORTANT
• Be very careful because using force to insert a slotted screwdriver may scratch the body (counterbalance).

9.Remove the valve plate (valve) (53) and O-rings (29) & (60).

10.Remove the eight (NB1) springs (50) and four (NB2) springs (51).

11.While pressing down on the piston brake with a rag, blow air through the brake release oil passage hole (b) and remove the piston brake.
CAUTION
• Be careful not to blast too much air as doing so may cause the piston brake to go flying.
• The brake release oil passage hole is the larger of the bolt holes (3 bolts), so make sure you use the correct one.

12.Rotate the disassembly/assembly platform 90° and remove the plate (friction) (46), cylinder block and sub-assembly

13.Remove the swash-plate (variable).

14.Turn the assembly platform back to its original position and remove the piston, ASSY (B2)(31) and spring (piston B) (30).

15.Remove the two steel balls (35).

16.Remove the shaft (34) and bearing (33).

17.Turn the assembly platform over and remove the oil seal (32).
When you removed the shaft, if the ball bearing did not come off,remove it together now.
• Tool to use: hammer and slotted screwdriver
