AFFECTED VEHICLES

  • 2020 – 2023MY N-Series Vehicles Produced from 8/26/2020 through 7/31/2022 and Equipped with 6.6L (L8T) Gasoline Engines

CONDITION

General Motors LLC, the manufacturer of the engine in your vehicle, has determined that certain 2020 – 2023MY N-Series vehicles produced from 8/26/2020 through 7/31/2022 and equipped with 6.6L (L8T) gasoline engines may experience water intrusion into the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor connector. If water intrudes into this connection, you may experience engine performance issues as well as setting the Check Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).

CORRECTION

Dealers will replace the MAF sensor and apply additional sealing tape to the MAF connection for waterproof protection on affected vehicles. This service will be provided free of charge.

IMPORTANT: California dealers must issue a “Proof of Correction Certificate” to owners of the affected vehicles after completing the work specified below. Advise the Isuzu owners to keep the Certificate, as the California Department of Motor Vehicles may ask for proof of this campaign completion before permitting renewal of the vehicles’ registration.

IMPORTANT: Dealers must fill out every field on the Proof of Correction Certificate.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 2020 – 2023MY N-Series vehicles produced from 8/26/2020 through 7/31/2022 and equipped with 6.6L (L8T) gasoline engines.

NOTE: Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the Isuzu Vehicle Information System (IVIS).

For dealers with involved vehicles, a report of involved vehicles containing the complete vehicle identification number has been or will be provided. Dealers will not have a report available if they have no involved vehicles currently assigned.

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts orders may be placed with American Isuzu Parts Distribution Network (AIPDN). Please refer to your “involved vehicles listing” before ordering parts. Normal (non-emergency) orders should be placed on a Stock Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a VOR (Vehicle Off Road) Order.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.Turn off the ignition.

2.Remove the mass air flow (MAF) sensor/intake air temperature (IAT) sensor bolts (1) and remove the MAF sensor from the intake duct. See Figure 1.

3.If the vehicle was produced on or after 01/03/2022, it will have Tesa tape already wrapped around the MAF sensor connection. Un-wrap the existing Tesa tape and discard it. For all other vehicles, continue to Step 4.

4.Disconnect the harness to the MAF sensor/IAT sensor (2). See Figure 1.

5.Connect the harness to the NEW MAF sensor/IAT sensor prior to inserting it into the air intake duct. See Figure 2.

6.Using Tesa® tape 51006 (or Tesa® tape 51036) align the tape to the edge of the sensor shown by the dotted lines. See Figure 3.

7.Start at the sensor edge and wrap three times. Ensure that the tape is securely attached to all surfaces, including the recesses shown circled in the photo. See Figure 4.

8.Press down on the tape to ensure all gaps are closed and sealed. See Figure 5.

9.Continue wrapping around the harness bend. See Figure 6.

10.Continue wrapping the harness, overlapping the previous wrap by half, and ending 100mm from the outside edge of the harness bend. See Figure 7.

IMPORTANT: Inspect for contamination or damage. There should be no solvents or lubricants adhering to the detecting section of the sensor.

11.Install the MAF sensor/IAT sensor (2) and bolts (1) into the intake air duct. See Figure 1. Tighten the bolts to 1.5 N·m (13 lb·in).

12.Proceed to Applying the Campaign Label.
